Rhode Island property tax benefits
Rhode Island veterans with any type of discharge besides dishonorable who served in a recognized war or conflict may qualify for a property tax exemption. Surviving spouses and Gold Star parents may also be eligible.

Rhode Island vehicle benefits
Veterans can get a veteran designation on their Rhode Island license or ID card. Those with a 100% VA disability rating can also qualify for a Disabled Veteran license.
Veterans with a 100% VA rating can also get a parking placard that allows them to use handicap parking spaces. They must submit a War Related Disabled Declaration letter to prove eligibility. Other disability parking placards are available for qualifying veterans with lower ratings.
Honorably discharged veterans may be eligible for a veteran license plate that can be used on most passenger vehicles, motorcycles, and trucks. Free specialty plates are also available for vets with a 100% VA disability rating, former POWs, and Purple Heart recipients. Surviving spouses of veterans who do not remarry can continue to use any of these plates.
Finally, honorably discharged veterans may be exempted from paying vehicle registration fees as long as one of the following applies:
- They have a 100% VA disability rating
- They receive TDIU benefits
- They lost or lost the use of a hand, arm, foot, or leg during a recognized conflict or war
Rhode Island education benefits
Veterans who are permanent residents of Rhode Island may be eligible to receive a tuition waiver for the University of Rhode Island after using up any financial aid received through FAFSA. To qualify, the veteran must have a service-connected disability rated at least 10% disabling.
The waiver covers tuition costs, but not any additional fees or room and board.
Rhode Island hunting and fishing licenses
Honorably discharged veterans with a permanent 100% VA disability rating can receive a free hunting and fishing license.
