Woods & Woods to celebrate move to Haynie’s Corner
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 23, 2025
Evansville, Indiana – Woods & Woods will celebrate our 40th anniversary and our new office in the Haynie’s Corner neighborhood with a ribbon-cutting at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 2. A celebration will follow until 10 p.m.
The family-owned law firm moved to 808 SE 3rd St. in April. It was most recently the Center of Hope Church (originally Calvary Baptist Church).
Neil Woods, the firm’s owner and president, purchased the property in 2022 and invested $9.5 million in renovating the former church, the attached 3-story school building, and the parking lot.
“Turning a former church and school building into an office space was an exciting challenge,” Woods said. “I had a great team to help bring this vision to life.”
The church sanctuary is now the center of the firm’s case management department. Cubicles replaced the church pews, and the floor-to-ceiling windows fill the space with natural light.
The first floor of the school building, which was originally an industrial kitchen and cafeteria, now includes an employee lounge, an executive boardroom, and seven conference rooms.
Pipes from the church’s original pipe organ are featured in a 60s-style Sputnik light fixture hanging in the lobby. Other finishings and furnishings throughout the building maintain the church’s mid-century modern style.
Other work on the building included:
- Reinforcing and leveling the church balcony for the intake and case development departments
- Transforming the church basement into the marketing department, video studio, and employee fitness room
- Gutting and redesigning the 2nd and 3rd floors of the school building for private offices for attorneys, management, legal analysts, and human resources
- Made the building ADA compliant by adding an elevator and exterior ramps
- Excavating the parking lot that now features 143 spaces, 92 trees, more than 300 plants and bushes, and an outdoor seating area for employees
- Replacing the sidewalks and installing tree wells along 3rd and 4th streets
“As a former Haynie’s Corner resident, I’m excited to be part of the continued development of this special neighborhood,” Woods said. “I look forward to seeing all the ways our staff will be involved in the HCAD community and events.”
Woods & Woods occupied the Old Vanderburgh County Jail for 22 years but outgrew the historic building during a significant growth in staff in recent years. The firm employs over 130 people including VA-accredited attorneys, case managers, legal analysts, and intake agents.
The land lease for the Old Jail at 208 NW 4th Street is for sale through Hahn Kiefer Real Estate Services.
Mike Woods started the Evansville firm in 1985 as an advocate for people with injuries and disabilities. In 2008, the business began focusing on representing veterans in their VA disability appeals and has since helped clients recover more than $1 billion in VA back pay owed to them.
