New Hampshire property tax benefits
New Hampshire offers a total property tax exemption for certain severely disabled veterans who have had their homes modified for their disability, typically from a VA SAH or SHA grant.
To qualify, the veteran must have a permanent and total VA disability rating or be service connected for one of the following:
- Blindness in both eyes (Visual acuity 5/200 or less)
- Loss of both arms
- Loss of both legs
- Loss of one arm and one leg
- Paraplegia
Veterans who don’t qualify under this exemption may want to look into whether they are instead eligible for the state’s elderly tax exemption, disabled tax exemption, or another exemption. The full list is found here.
New Hampshire tax credits
Several different tax credits are available to veterans in New Hampshire.
All Veterans Tax Credit: $50 to $750. Only available if your municipality has adopted it.
Veterans’ Tax Credit: $50 to $750.
Optional Tax Credit for Combat Service: $50 to $500. Only available if your municipality has adopted it.
Tax Credit for Service-Connected Total Disability: $700 to $4,000.

New Hampshire does not tax earned income.
New Hampshire vehicle registration benefits
Disabled veteran plates are available free of charge to veterans who have a permanent and total VA disability rating.
Other plates and placards are available to veterans with a disability that makes walking difficult.
Honorably discharged veterans can get a veteran designation on their state ID or license, making it easier to access discounts or prove their status when needed.
The following veterans can be exempted from paying certain license and registration fees:
- Permanently and totally disabled veterans
- Veterans with service-connected paraplegia
- Veterans with service-connected blindness
- Veterans who have had an amputation as a result of service
New Hampshire education benefits
New Hampshire offers many education benefits for the children of veterans.
Free tuition opportunities may be available to children whose parent:

New Hampshire hunting and fishing licenses
For a one-time fee of $10, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department offers honorably discharged veterans with a permanent 100% VA rating a lifetime combination hunting and fishing license. Veterans must be a resident of New Hampshire, Maine, or Vermont to qualify.
Paraplegic veterans can get a permit to hunt from a motor vehicle.
