Standard veteran plates are available for any honorably discharged veteran who meets service length requirements.

Veterans with a 100% VA disability rating or who receive TDIU may be exempt from paying most license and registration fees under the Massachusetts HERO Act. They can also qualify for an excise sales tax exemption on their personal vehicle.

Honorably discharged veterans may also be able to get a veteran designation on their license, making it easier to access discounts.

Massachusetts veteran education benefits

Veterans may qualify for a Massachusetts Categorical Tuition Waiver, which can cover college tuition for students in need of financial assistance.

As space allows, veterans may receive tuition assistance for any state-supported undergraduate course or certificate program offered by a public college or university.

Public Service Scholarship Programs are also available to surviving children living in Massachusetts whose parent was a POW or who was killed or went missing in action. For children of veterans who died in the Global War on Terror, there is also the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund.

Entering ratings

Injuries to the arms and legs are entered separately from other ratings to account for the VA's bilateral factor. Here is an example of how our calculator works for a veteran with a 20% rating for a left hand injury and a 40% PTSD rating:

Screenshot of two ratings entered in the calculator. The first is Left arm at 20%. The second is a general VA disability at 40%.

Your result will appear below your selections. It includes the VA-calculated final rating as well as the rating before rounding, and your expected monthly payments.
