Veteran home loan/mortgage benefits
Maryland does not offer home loan and mortgage benefits to veterans. However, veterans can apply to the VA home loan program.
Veteran property tax benefits
Veterans with a permanent and total 100% disability rating are eligible for an exemption from real property taxes. Certain unmarried surviving spouses may also qualify for property tax exemptions.
Veteran income tax benefits
Maryland veterans who are 55 or older may be eligible to subtract up to $12,500 from income taxes with an increase to the first $20,000 from military retirement income.
Veteran vehicle registration benefits
The Maryland Motor Vehicle Association offers permanent vehicle registration cards and license plate stickers to Maryland veterans who are rated 100% disabled by the VA. The organization also waives registration fees for vehicles owned by eligible disabled veterans.
Veterans rated 100% disabled or who are compensated as 100% due to individual unemployability that’s permanent and total in nature can receive a free disabled veterans license plate.
Veterans can also request a special designation on their driver’s license.
Veteran education benefits
The state of Maryland offers two scholarships to help veterans, their spouses, and dependent children pursuing higher education.
Veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq Conflicts Scholarship
This program is for those who served in the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts who are seeking an undergraduate degree. Spouses and dependent children of qualifying military members and veterans can also receive this scholarship.
Veterans and families must meet specific requirements in order to receive this scholarship.
Edward T. Conroy Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is intended to help veterans, their spouses, and dependent children with tuition fees and additional educational expenses at an institution of higher learning within the state of Maryland.

Veteran hunting and fishing licenses
Veterans who are 100% service-connected disabled or former prisoners of war qualify for complimentary lifetime fishing and hunting licenses.
Additionally, all state park day-use fees are waived for veterans.
