Veterans in Maine are eligible for the same federal VA disability compensation as veterans in any other state. However, each state offers some of its own unique benefits for veterans who are considered disabled by the VA.
While some benefits are available only for 100% disabled veterans in Maine, most are available to other veterans with lower disability ratings. We share some of these state benefits below.

Certain veterans who are residents of Maine may qualify for a $6,000 property tax exemption from the value of their home.
To qualify for this exemption, the veteran must:
- have been discharged under other than dishonorable conditions,
- have served in a federally recognized war period,
- be 62 or older, and
- receive any form of pension or compensation, service or nonservice-connected, from the U.S. government for total disability.

Additionally, veterans who received a federal grant for a specially adapted housing unit may qualify for a $50,000 property exemption from the value of their home.
More information about these benefits can be found on the Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services website.
