VA disability benefits in Georgia
Veterans in Georgia are eligible for the same federal VA disability compensation as veterans in any other state. However, each state offers some of its own unique benefits for veterans who are considered disabled by the VA. While some benefits are available only for 100% disabled veterans in Georgia, most are available to other veterans with lower disability ratings. We share some of these state benefits below.
Veteran home loan/mortgage benefits
Georgia Dream Peach Select Veterans Assistance Loan Program provides veterans with low-interest home loan opportunities that don’t require a down payment.
Veterans entitled to a statutory award for the loss of use of certain extremities may also qualify for the loan, as well as surviving, un-remarried spouses and surviving minor children of veterans.
Veteran property tax benefits
Honorably discharged 100% disabled veterans or veterans compensated at 100% due to unemployability may be granted a property tax credit of up to $109,986.
Veteran income tax benefits
Retired veterans under the age of 62 are eligible for an income tax exemption of up to $17,500 of their military retirement income. An additional exemption of up to $17,500 is available for veterans under 62 who have at least $17,500 of earned income.
Veterans ages 62-64 are eligible for Georgia’s existing retirement tax exemption of up to $35,000, while veterans over 65 years old are eligible for an exemption of up to $65,000.
Veteran vehicle registration benefits
Certain Georgia veterans seeking a vehicle may qualify for an exemption to their annual property tax or title tax. Eligible veterans include those who are 100% totally and permanently disabled and veterans who are rated unemployable and receiving or entitled to statutory awards due to loss or loss of use of one or both feet or one or both hands, loss of sight in one or both eyes, or permanent vision impairment of both eyes.
There is also a possibility for a state sales tax exemption on vehicle purchase/adaptation.
Veteran education benefits
Georgia does not offer state education benefits. However, universities throughout Georgia may offer benefits or scholarships to veterans and their families.
Veterans, spouses, and dependent children can apply for education and tuition benefits via the GI Bill programs.
Veteran hunting and fishing licenses
Resident veterans may purchase a Georgia Sportsman’s license at a 20% discounted price. This license includes all state paid recreational hunting and fishing privileges
Other VA disability benefits in Georgia
Veterans in Georgia are also eligible for benefits they may be federally entitled to including healthcare benefits, pensions, VA disability compensation, and more.

VA regional offices in Georgia
Each state has at least one VA regional office (VARO) that provides in-person services to help veterans with VA benefits and claims. Offices also offer information about veteran medical help, education and career counseling, memorial benefits, aid for homeless veterans, and more. Below is a list of VAROs in Georgia.
VetSuccess offices in Georgia
VetSuccess on campus (VSOC) offices are located on college campuses around Georgia and the country. These partnerships between schools and the VA aid veterans in obtaining educational benefits and finding their best path forward when seeking a degree.
VA medical facilities in Georgia
VA medical facilities offer medical information and assistance for veterans. Vets may also receive their compensation and pension (C&P) exam at many of these facilities. The VA uses the information gathered at a C&P exam to determine how severe a veteran’s service-connected condition is. Below is a list of all VA medical facilities in Georgia.
