DIC stands for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation. Of course, the next question is: What does that mean? DIC is the monthly check for surviving spouses, children, or even parents of a veteran that died during active duty or as a result of his or her service-connected disability. If you were a dependent of a veteran who died because of their VA disability, you may be entitled to a DIC payment until you remarry or become an adult.
