Why apply for your DIC VA survivor benefits claim?

Here are four reasons.

You don’t have to hire a DIC lawyer to file a benefits claim, but the application process can be complicated, time-consuming, and usually requires years of waiting. The VA-accredited lawyers at Woods & Woods have represented thousands of veteran families. We’d like the opportunity to represent you throughout the DIC appeals process.

1. You could receive more than $1,699.36 a month with DIC.

Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) benefits help financially support your family after the loss of a veteran. Our DIC lawyers understand how to navigate the VA system so you can focus on healing and caring for loved ones. Those payments start at $1,699.36 per month, and you could receive even more if you’re disabled or caring for a dependent under the age of 18. We know money won’t erase the grief of losing a loved one, but DIC benefits can help you keep up with the bills while you look after yourself and your family.

2. You may be closer to DIC VA benefits than you think.

Many survivors assume they aren’t eligible for benefits, even when they are. The VA’s rules can be confusing and you could receive an initial denial despite qualifying for benefits – that’s where the experienced VA survivor benefits attorneys at Woods & Woods can help. We’ll review your case and determine your veterans widow benefits eligibility, so you can receive the monthly payments your family deserves.

3. We’re accredited by the VA.

All of our VA lawyers have the required accreditation to represent you before the VA. This means we can communicate with the VA on your behalf and are held to a higher ethical standard than non-accredited representatives.

Our membership in the National Organization of Veterans’ Advocates also provides our attorneys access to critical legal resources and a community of legal representatives who champion veterans.

4. You pay nothing unless we win.

There are no upfront fees while we work on your DIC claim. If we win, we receive an agreed-upon percentage of your back pay and reimbursement for case-related expenses. We never take any of your future monthly benefits. If we don’t win your case, you owe us nothing.

They got me from 40% to 90%. They are great at what they do, but once they get you TDIU and you are being paid at the 100% pay level they just quit on you no matter what they leave unresolved. I still had 3 things they had filed for me and they quit cause there was no more money to be made. They start off all gung-ho and then just vanish when they get all the money they will get out of your case. I wish they would add a clause to their contract stating they will still represent you after getting paid until all things they have filed for you have been decided. Other than that little part they were fantastic with me. At first I hit a bump in the road and was dropped from 70% to 40% and that really sucked. About four months later I received a letter from the VA stating that it had been a clerical error and because of what Woods & Woods had filed I was at 90% and TDIU had come through so I was now getting paid at the 100%. They did amazing things that I could not have done by myself since it pretty much takes trained specialists to figure out what the VA is referring to or wanting.

Woods & Woods got me to 100% in about three months! I got stalled trying to do it myself FOR YEARS at about 70%. Woods & Woods comes in and gets it done! And then they even turned around and got me backpay for my permanent disability! Talk about a much-needed blessing! My case manager Joanie was very understanding, helpful, patient with me (and my random questions) and most of all, excellent with communication. I would definitely recommend them to anybody and everybody no matter where you are in your VA claim journey!

Entering ratings

Injuries to the arms and legs are entered separately from other ratings to account for the VA's bilateral factor. Here is an example of how our calculator works for a veteran with a 20% rating for a left hand injury and a 40% PTSD rating:

Your result will appear below your selections. It includes the VA-calculated final rating as well as the rating before rounding, and your expected monthly payments.
